A Chilling Encounter

You offer me an iced latte, I feel distant and aloof,
All I needed was a cappuccino, my disenchantment hits the roof.
You place the salt and pepper shakers, as far apart as you can,
We suddenly seem to drift away, you're now beyond my span.

On a cloudy, winter morning, if I'm fine you quip,
My feelings freeze inside me, as the frozen latte I sip.
There is a jigsaw puzzle on the table, edges sharp and jagged,
Frigid, Frosted, Gelid, such words on the pieces you've etched.

As the pieces fall into place, I avoid your ice cold hands,
I could have stayed at your place, but there is a change in plans.
I cannot let you witness, the never ending winter in my heart,
You're already cold and barren, we're doomed from the start.

I know you're hurting, my darling, you want to stay distant and apart,
Don't trick me into more coldness, or I'll freeze you in my art.
